Dropbox Users Receive Spam Emails

Dropbox Users Receive Spam Emails
Numerous Dropbox users are acquiring spam emails which were only designed to be used with the service.

Last July, Dropbox had a similar incident happen where users received junk mail, and upon investigation, it was discovered that a Dropbox employee's login information was compromised. The hacker was then granted access to users emails to give to a third-party website. Although Dropbox has enhanced their security since that incident, some speculators think this may be the case again leaning on evidence which suggests the spam emails were leaked due to them spontaneously popping up just a few days ago.

The cloud storage service is aware of the situation and is now analyzing the evidence. Sean B., a Dropbox employee, addresses customer concerns stating " We've been looking into these spam reports and take them seriously. Back in July we reported that certain user email addresses had leaked and some users had received spam as a result. At this time, we have not seen anything to suggest this is a new issue, but remain vigilant given the recent wave of security incidents at other tech companies. If you've received spam to an email account you only use for Dropbox, please send the message (including full headers) to support-security@dropbox.com to help our ongoing investigation." Aside from this security breach, Dropbox has been busy boosting its service by adding new features and upgrades which may be aimed at battling one of its major competitors, Box Inc.
